On a free day, as Yuuki was on a patrol with her cruiser and crew, she received a brief Priority Exitialis message direct from the Admiralty.
She was to return to Eden, with a selectable escort allowed, for a very important occasion.
The message had been from Red(M), the attached authorization codes having confirmed this message as authentic.
Reading the message, the GDS Minerva’s AI, Marie had just finshed vocalizing the message.
“It sounds urgent, Captain. Should I plot a course for Eden?” The A.I. retorted urgently. She figured something had to have been amiss for Captain Konno to be called back to Eden so…..suddenly.
“Yes, Marie. Plot a course for Eden. If its the Admiralty, they wouldnt send for me if it wasn’t urgent. And for Red of all people to be the one sending it……” Yuuki declared, saying the last part to herself. As the ship began its voyage back to her homeworld of Eden, the purple haired captain began to think to her self. “Dear Gods……what could the Admiralty want from me? And so urgently as well….I hope this doesn’t go south.”
At top FTL speed, the Minerva returned to Eden quickly.
Yuuki’s subsequent arrival at Starbase One was met by an honor guard of two, a human and Asari.
The human guard looked at Yuuki kindly. “Follow us, Captain. The Fleet Admiral’s waiting, seems like a good occasion from what I hear.”
Without further ado, Yuuki was escorted to Red(M)’s office. Once past the two Black Guard at the doors, Yuuki would enter to find her husband waiting for her, standing at his desk. Flanking him were the holographic forms of the other 14 Fleet Admirals.
Red(M) looked at his wife calmly, but his eyes betrayed the hidden warmth and love he held for her in this occasion. After they saluted each other, Red(M) spoke. “Thank you for being here on such short notice, Captain. We apologize for the abrupt notification.”
“We have reviewed your service to the Initiative. And the Executive Council AIs agree with our conclusion.”
“Captain Konno Yuuki, you have done so much in service of the Initiative and the wider galaxy. It would be indefensible to not recognize dedication of such caliber. The Admiralty has decided it is only appropriate to reward you as befitting your service in return.”
As the Admiralty tapped their omni-tools as one, a haptic screen appeared in front of Yuuki. Her rank chevrons flashed and updated, the [CAPT] being replaced by [VICE ADM].
In unison, the entire Admiralty saluted Yuuki. With head inclined in respect, Red(M) spoke.
“Congratulations….Vice Admiral.”
Yuuki’s mouth was wide open. She had been promoted. Correction. She was promoted. She didnt know how to react, but now she had to react, how a Vice Admiral would respond to an order from the Admiralty she so admired.
“T-thank you, Fleet Admirals. I….I never thought that I of all people would be chosen for this position. I worked as hard as I could to show that I was worthy of being able to be recognized by you all. So…this means something great to me. I am glad that I could be of use to all of you, and the GDI as a whole.” Yuuki saluted, seeing her chevrons update as the rank next that came before her name was changed to [VICE ADM.]. She couldn’t have been happier.
Yuuki was holding in her tears of joy as she heard Vice Admiral leave her beloved husband’s lips. She had done it. Marie was applauding in awe for the woman she had come to know and understand over time. Wait until Saber heard the news!
Once the Admiralty let themselves return to ease, Red(M) spoke again.
“For the next three weeks, you and your crew are granted leave to use as all of you desire. After that, you are to report to Auger Station for your training on the duties and nature of your new rank.”
Fleet Admiral Platinum spoke next, her posh British accent laced with satisfaction. “It is custom that a promoted officer be allowed to choose their new ship. See Fleet Administration after this to decide on your new vessel, Vice Admiral. You may also select your own choice of command staff. Your ship AI may also either come along with you to your new post, or stay. Their choice in turn.”
Red(M) chimed in finally. “Enjoy your rest, Admiral Yuuki. You’ve earned it.”
Once the Admiralty’s avatars had disappeared, Red(M) went over and hugged Yuuki very lovingly. “I’m so very happy for you, YuuYuu. A very big congrats.”
He had a warm smile and kissed her cheek, letting Yuuki sit beside him as they enjoyed the office’s view of Eden and its Orbital Ring.

Imagine if you will, your Operator in their Warframe walking up to children of the Cetus colony who were right in the middle of playing with their paper mache masks and weapons as a Warframe and a squad of Grineer. Imagine those kids looking up to you just going “whoa.” Imagine your Operator hopping out of their Warframe and spending time with the kids and, even if for only a moment, having a childhood like they should have that the Orokin took from them by turning them into child soldiers instead of curing them.
