The story of Warframe: how a game no publisher wanted found 26 million players

god-damn-tenno:

A PC gamer’s article on Warframe.

Not a single publisher said yes. Most of them said outright that the game was doomed to fail. In many cases, the pitch meetings were over before they could even start. Sinclair told me about a meeting they had set up during GDC, saying it once again all came down to Warframe’s theme. “The executives walk in and say ‘I can’t wait to see what you have today, this is great,’” he recalled, “and they turn, see the screen and see sci-fi, and it’s ‘riiiiiip’ goes the record needle and ‘oh it’s too bad it’s sci-fi,’ and the meeting was over.”

Man, reading it made me so happy! YOU SHOWED THEM, DIGITAL EXTREMES!

Going on a mission with Clem. You lost Clem, he just wanders off.

You move on, take cover behind a wall before entering a room full of Grineer!

You start to hear footsteps coming from behind. You don’t look, cause you’re a Warframe. You’ll just take’em down anyways.

The footsteps stop. You feel a slight actual fear. You hear it speak.

“Clem.”

Clem Surprise.

You know, I recall reading an alternate character interpretation about the Tenno being complete jokesters when not on mission. Trolling each other and having a jolly good laugh like a bunch of void-power-harnessing Teenagers….

Boy oh boy oh boy, hilarious in hindsight much?

Masters of Blade and Gun

(Closed RP with @zeldamaniac23.)

Wolf would visit Red(M) one day at his home, only to find him at his usual training area, being overseen by someone unfamiliar as Red(M) went through several stances with a katana and rifle. On the other end of the room was several target boards.

The figure was clad entirely in elegant, almost organic-looking armor, the helmet having no visor and having a horn of sorts protruding from it. It was also armed with a katana as well as shuriken, and a pistol.

Although Wolf didn’t know it, this was Excalibur, one of the Tenno. Masters of the blade and gun. And one of Red’s old masters in the art of combat.

Suddenly, Red(M), under the watch of the Tenno, began to run through the room’s obstacles, using parkour and acrobatics to gracefully wall-run and slide while firing his rifle and slashing with the katana simultaneously.

He hit every target perfectly, and the Tenno gave a silent nod of approval. Returning to the Excalibur, Red(M) bowed deeply in the Japanese fashion, the Tenno doing the same.

Both then turned to Wolf, who’d been silently watching them. “Hello, Wolf. Nice to see you here today.” Red(M) said with a nod.

He gestured to his master at his side. “This is one of my old teachers. A Tenno. You may call him Excalibur.”

Excalibur simply nodded at Wolf, the Tenno not saying a word.
