Test of the Gauntlet [closed with fleet-admiral-red]

Whatever that last bit was about comic book versions and courting Death, Red had honestly no idea. Probably Astrid’s vastly superior awareness of other universes.

“Can’t comment much on that, then. The observable universe still has unimaginable levels of resources and living space, so I guess you’d be right to say this guy’s nuts to some extent.”

Maybe he could do some digging in the Archives after he returned. Most media prior to the dawn of Earth’s 21st century had survived in some form, he could look there.

But while he was here…perhaps he could relax a little.

“I can’t help but wonder how things would have turned out if you’d tested Yellow instead of me. Wherever she is. She always was…the most noble of us.”

“Eh, there’s no need to test Yellow,” Astrid answered.  “She’s always been a noble person.  A morality test like that holds no meaning when dealing with someone who’s already very good-aligned.”

“There are times I wonder how things would have been…if she led the Initiative and not I.” Red admitted.

A sigh. “I suppose we’ll find out if or when she returns to us. This new time requires that we do things…quietly. All the better, I guess. Noble and kind of heart she may be, but in all the time I’ve known her, Yellow has never been suited to war.”

Having no choice but to obey Thrud’s wishes, Yellow sat back and gulped down a few breaths. The pain eased, but only a little.

She was beginning to see some static in her vision, not good. All those diagnostics were reading pretty badly too.

Her regeneration could heal the damage fairly quickly, but both the suit’s and her own energy levels would take more time to recover. Right now all that was sustainable was her personal shield.

For a hazy eternity, Yellow hovered on the verge of sleep.

Thankfully, the rest of the trip was relatively calm.  Thrud kept a close eye on Yellow and pulled out a Holy Drive.  Activating the Holy Drive, a wave of healing energy washed over Yellow to recover both her wounds and her energy levels.  “You really shouldn’t push yourself that much,” Thrud mentioned.  “That’s a good way to get yourself killed.”

Intrigued by the device that had healed and rejuvenated her so quickly, Yellow resolved to ask Thrud about it soon. But she had to give an answer to the warrior first.

“Pain’s an old friend, Thrud. I suffer it so others…so you never have to. If even one of my comrades can live through a battle, then I will gladly face any agony.”

As the vehicle drove on, Yellow was silent for a moment, thinking deeply. “I see now that what I brought with me was not enough. After this job is done…I’ll need to make something.”

“This will be a matter requiring much careful thought.” Serina admitted. An inkling of an idea was there already, but she had to thoroughly develop it first.

“Is there more that needs to be done?”

Hopefully not much. If she was going to have her own followers, she would lay down her guiding principles for them first and foremost.

“Outside of designing your afterlife? Well, there’s a bunch of paperwork we need to fill out for you to be approved for apotheosis, but that’ll come after you have some experience working as a pseudo-deity to your followers,” Astrid answered.  “Should be simple enough, really.”

An afterlife…intriguing to know such things were real. She knew Red(M)’s recount of the time he’d visited one particular instance of one, but to have solid confirmation that she could even have her own version…

A network of uploaded minds was the closest equivalent she could compare it to. Perhaps she could use that as a starting point.

“Duly noted. I thank you for your willingness to entertain my curiosity, Astrid.” Serina replied. “It is time I…administered these new followers of mine.”

Shakily, Yellow fired off some shots as well, but with how low her suit’s now-recharging power reserves were, her previously brilliant lances of golden energy were now reduced to anemic-looking bolts.

Her head was pounding and her internal diagnostics screamed for her to rest, but Yellow gritted her teeth and fought through the pain. She couldn’t just sit by.

“I have to fight too…I must.” she all but hissed through ragged breaths.

Thrud quickly yanked Yellow into the vehicle seeing her continuing to fight.  “You stay in here, and don’t push yourself any further,” she ordered as their mage brought down a comet onto the Fire Giants.

The blast causing the Fire Giants to scatter, Thrud ordered, “Everyone, push forward now while we have the chance! Move it!” And thus, the vehicles hit the gas as hard as they could to drive to the next location.

Again, fairly obvious choices. As far as Serina was aware, there had never before been a true deity of her particular archetypes.

It would do good for her to become the first. The hypermind’s avatar laced her hands behind her back, gaze distant as she began talking to herself.

“Perhaps Artificial Intelligence can be a decent start to these secondaries. Hypertech, another. Niche, but perhaps you understand. Most described deities in panspecies history…they have had heralds. Records indicate you have your own, but do all? Much to think about…”

“It’s not necessarily the case,” Astrid answered.  “Some gods can go without heralds.  Most of the time though, Heralds are simply Divine Servants that exist to spread the word of your existence to mortals.”

She came only moments later, feeling Wolf continue to frantically thrust a few more times, each thrust bringing another spurt of his seed.

She made sure Yuki felt their release too, the girl beneath her trembling with ecstasy as the sensations carried over.

When he finally stopped, Red(F) panted in satisfaction, looking behind herself for a while. Her lustful gaze turned to Yuki, the admiral kissing the succubus again before speaking sultrily. “Was that good, you two? Want more?”

There was little time. Yellow swept her hand up, reshaping the shield wall into a flat plane and reinforcing it with both her suit’s energy reserves and her force of will.

The healer grimaced and braced herself. At that high a velocity, the blast yield of that meteor had to be in the multi-megatons.

She could only block it once. And not again for a while.

Even so, nothing prepared Yellow for the blinding light and sheer force of impact. The meteor obliterated itself upon smashing into her shield plane, the golden barrier shattering along with it into a rain of particles as Yellow screamed in pain from the psychic feedback.

And so she fell, ungraciously plummeting and crashing onto Thrud’s vehicle.

“I’m…sorry.” Yellow weakly said as she forced herself to sit up, her head feeling like it had taken a railgun impact. She could already see the Fire Giants preparing another attack. “Suit’s low on…power.”

“Dammit, I hate dealing with attacks like this,” Thrud mentioned.  “Alright boys, hit ‘em with everything we’ve got! If we can push back even a few of them, we can break through and reach our destination intact!”

“On it!” the other two party members confirmed as they opened fire on the Fire Giants, aiming for the weak points of the giants.  The mage began opening fire with Ice and Water spells, which seemed to do quite a bit to drive back the Fire Giants, who as fire-elemental beings were vulnerable to these elements.

Were she a normal mind, Serina’s consideration on her choice of Domain would have taken several minutes.

But she was a transapient. Running through and choosing the most applicable of themes or concepts she could have influence over took merely a few picoseconds. To any observers of the conversation, she would have appeared to reply instantly.

“Done. If it is applicable, my Domain shall be that of technology. In all its forms and levels.”

A fairly obvious choice for her, really. Innumerable beings used technology in one way or another. She herself was born of it.

“That can be arranged,” Astrid answered.  “As for Secondary Domains, these don’t give you power but can be used to differentiate you from other gods who share your domain.  You can basically pick any number of Secondary Domains for you to use.”

Again, fairly obvious choices. As far as Serina was aware, there had never before been a true deity of her particular archetypes.

Each movement of Wolf’s brought a squeal and cry from Red(F), the Admiral pressing her face into Yuki’s neck.

Even as she was being plowed into, Red(F) ensured both her partners felt everything that she did. Every rub and thrust triggering a wave of pleasure threefold on the two behind and before her. Red(F)’s inner walls squeezed down on his length, determined to milk him all she could of his seed.

And all the while, she made the lewdest moans and cries she could, knowing it turned both of them on.

As Red passed through the portal to enter the Throne Room, he shook his head with some slight amusement.

“You see now, why my colleagues and I ceded power to the Assembly? We have made flawed decisions in the past in the Initiative’s name. Much blood has been shed. You know what I’m talking about.”

Stepping out into the Throne Room proper, he spread his hands. “Better that this power be taken out of our hands.”

As he saw Astrid appear before him, Red laced his hands behind his back. “This…Thanos. Please, tell me about him. What you said about wiping out half the universe…troubles me.”

“Oh him? He’s just some crazy old man who decided that the best way to save the universe from running out of raw materials is to randomly murder exactly half the entire universe.  Something about ‘balance’ being achieved in it.  He’s a nutter, and he’s also got the real Infinity Gauntlet,” Astrid answered.  “I wouldn’t recommend going to punch him in the face, he’s got the Infinity Gauntlet right now and all the Infinity Stones.  Still, at least he’s not his comic book self that did the half-universe-murder thing for, y’know, courting Death.”
