“Well, many of my advisers say fatherhood suits me.” Wolf smiled, his voice quiet, “They’re not wrong.”

He looked at Zelda proudly.

“This one, however, will be my last.” He said, “I’ve fathered a lot of children in my time on this plane of existence, Red… I’ve had bastards running around for years. In the culture I was raised in, it’s not unusual to have a lot of children. Hell, you’re not considered a man until you’ve fathered a bastard. However… I’m happy now that I’ve had Zelda here… She will be my heir.”

He looked over at Red(F). He’d changed considerably since they last saw each other. Some of his scars had faded slightly, except the one close to his left eye. His eyes, which had once had some brightness to them, were dark, weary from years of war. His unruly hair, currently done up in a small ponytail, was now flecked with gray.

Closing his eyes, and sighing, he went and placed Zelda gently into a cot, kissing her forehead. Walking back to the seat, he sat back down.

“A lot has happened.” He said, “A lot of things I regret… a lot of things I don’t.”

Tears formed in his eyes. Carefully, he hugged her.

“I am so… so … sorry…” He said tearfully, his shame taking over, “For everything that I have caused you… for everything I caused the GDI… I am so… so… sorry…”

Things got even more complicated as Red(M)’s voice entered the call, the difference in tone indicating he was communicating electronically.

“If you intend to resolve your issues with my colleague and friend, Wolf, might I suggest you think for a moment? Not that I wouldn’t let you do it, given our circumstances, but killing him in a duel, assuming it’s to the death, will be disastrous for relations between our peoples.”

Still seated in his seat, Red(M) had no change in his expression as he continued within the call. “Your people’s future or Green’s head. I trust you have a preference.”

“This is not between our nations. This is between two men.” Wolf said, “Do I have to remind you of all the times you’ve disrespected the laws and customs of my people, or the time you glassed several planets in my empire? The Coalition doesn’t know about all of that. You interfere with me and Green’s dealings, and I will personally make sure the Coalition knows EVERYTHING.”

Don’t be a fool, Red. I know you’ve covered things up. Seraph’s got all the dirt.” He said, ”You let this happen, and you keep the relations between my people and yours out of this, and I promise on my blood and my blade that what you have covered up will remain covered up.”

“You assume I’m going to continue to keep the aforementioned information covered up.” Red(M) answered wordlessly through the call.

“Have your duel if you want, but take heed; look beyond just yourself for once. If Green survives whatever you inflict upon him, his opinion of warriors will only go down further. You will certainly not make a friend of him, but at least this will entertain your needs.”

Red(F) broke in with a nearly indignant hiss. “You’re just going to let Wolf slaughter your friend?!”

Red(M)’s electronic reply was clipped before he left the call. “All progress requires sacrifice.”

Wolf thought about what Red(M) said, and then thought better of what he was doing.

“No, I’m not going to duel him.” He said, his voice changing from the stalwart warrior to shaky, “Something’s off… something is very off… Red, can you get here quickly? I think someone’s trying to manipulate things. Someone’s trying to…”

Red(F) could hear him start to breathe a bit heavier.

“Someone’s trying to manipulate my emotions…” He said before the line went dead.

With the call ended, Red(M) shook his head, to the mild confusion of the other Fleet Admirals and Lumeri.

Red(F), however, could ‘hear’ the remark he made through their link. “All of this resolved when he thinks clearly and puts aside emotional turmoil. Truly, baselines are a tragedy.”

To the Admiralty, Red(M) spoke. “I think we can safely put that aside. We all need some rest, I believe. This assembly is ended.”

With that said, the gathered Fleet Admirals as well as Lumeri nodded amongst themselves and disconnected, their avatars winking out.

Red(M) sat back in his chair before getting up. “Time I went home for today. Red, I think you should meet with Wolf again. Humor him for a bit, will you?”

Red(F) nodded slowly, hugging her male self and giving him a kiss on the cheek as she Blinked away, back to the room where she’d left Wolf off.

“Wolf? You alright there?”

When Red(F) had come in, Yuki was hovering over Wolf, who was still going through what looked like shock. He was breathing heavily, and shaking.

“No, no I am not…” Wolf said, trying to shake himself out of whatever was plaguing him at the moment.

“We have to something… wait… Red… show him your tits!” Yuki said.

“Wha…you’re serious?!” Red(F) half-exclaimed.

Not that she hadn’t done such a thing before, especially given her history with Wolf, but right now really wasn’t the best time to be lewd.

But with Yuki insisting, the Admiral huffed. “Alright, alright, if it’s what he needs!”

She tugged gently on her longcoat, exposing the form-hugging smart fabric bodysuit that was her uniform’s inner half.

Faint shimmers of light rippled throughout the suit as it shifted and flowed across her body, exposing her ample bosom for the two to see.

“There…”

Yellow acted quickly, flinging a hand out to generate a wide-angled shield wall stretching across the convoy to stop the horde from closing in. “You’re covered, Vesperr!”

She brought the gun turret to bear soon after and fired away, sharp bursts of weapons fire steadily downing orcs, especially those with any heavy weapons, as their advance crashed against the barrier of golden energy.

Off-handedly, Yellow kept track of the barrier’s integrity. It was incredibly durable, having stood up to an entire army before, but it wasn’t invincible. Not with just her alone generating it.

“We have 20 minutes before the shield goes down! If you need help, let me know!”

“Unless you somehow know telekinetic magic, I suggest you focus on the barrier!” Vesperr yelled back as he worked his magic.  It would take him some time, nearly 10 minutes, but he was able to clear up the rubble enough to allow the convoy to continue forward.

Vesperr climbed back into his vehicle and shouted, “Punch it! We don’t want to stay around here for too much longer!”

As Yellow felt her vehicle move, she kept her attention on the barrier.

It had held incredibly well, given the sheer weight of the hordes bearing down on it. The rear half of the convoy moved out, and once every last vehicle was clear of the pass, Yellow collapsed the shield with a thought.

She could hear the snarls of the monsters as they fell into the pass proper, some picking themselves up and attempting to chase the convoy.

Those attempts were soon met by turret fire. Yellow didn’t say a word, focusing mainly on taking out the receding enemies.

But another part of her mind kept track of her fellow party members as well. Thankfully, none of them were injured.

The AI Deity [closed with fleet-admiral-red]

@fleet-admiral-red

Astrid had been working for some time on various things.  She knew that she tended to stand out to the GDI given how she never really acted like a goddess, being extremely informal and honestly not very different from how she was before her divinity.

So it didn’t come as too great of a surprise to the Goddess of Light when Serina asked to speak with Astrid about the nature of her divinity.  She had plenty of time to finish up some of her side-projects, so Astrid went to go and speak with Serina.

When Astrid found the AI, she smiled and waved to her.  “Yo!” she said.  “Great to see ya again, Serina! How’s everything been?”

It was rare that Serina appeared in person, for whatever counted as a personal appearance by transapient standards. She’d always found it far more practical to use her many fragmented avatars when interacting with others.

But this occasion deserved much more, as close to a personal manifestation as reality allowed. Sometimes, things were just that important.

Before Astrid, a female form shimmered into existence from woven light and energy, a long-haired ravenette. Clad in a form-fitting white uniform emblazoned with a curious geometric emblem, one might have mistaken her for a scientist of some sort.

“Recent events have been…complex. The Initiative continues to run, albeit with troubles on both large and small scales. I will leave these to them, they hardly need my assistance in that regard.”

“But I digress, miss Astrid. We are both entities who have grown far beyond what we were at our beginnings. Yet one thing about you eludes me.”

Serina laced her hands behind her back, gaze level with the cheery goddess.

“I have studied my own growth beyond the singularity, and that of other similar minds. Beyond that final line, humanoid psychology models become impractical, perhaps even irrelevant. ”

The hyper-AI met Astrid’s eyes with her own. “Yet every observation I have made of you goes against this principle. Your capabilities are beyond even mine. How did your mind remain human, after all this?”

if you’ve seen the breaking news that trump just signed an executive order today to end the family separation policy here’s some quick info to keep things in perspective

  • this doesn’t end the “zero tolerance” policy of prosecuting anyone who crosses the border “illegally”
  • the only thing this changes is that going forward, entire families will be detained together while awaiting prosecution
  • this offers no solution for freeing the thousands of children currently held in ICE child prisons or any path to reuniting them with their families
  • children will still be detained and treated as criminals
  • this will likely lead to thousands of families being held in ICE facilities and tent cities that will face the exact same issues of overcrowding, abuse, and inhumane conditions that exist in the child prisons

this is not a victory or a solution. This is the administration trying to cover their asses and avoid any more public outrage. They want people to see this as the end of the news story and go back to their lives. They want people to forget the thousands of children they are still keeping in cages in ICE facilities across the nation. This issue is not over and we cannot stop being outraged until we are given proof that the thousands of kidnapped children are returned to their families, and that the policy of arresting and prosecuting people who cross the border is ended.

I was telling someone about how I got chickenpox cause my ma made me hang out with my sister and sleep in her roomwhen she’d had it and they were like “YOUR MOM WAS ANTIVAX???”

And, like, no, calm down, fren. I’m just old. There hadn’t had a vaccine for chickenpox then

*Old Man Voice* Back in my day, we had to play Russian roulette with our kids about being one of the ~9K hospitalizations and or ~100 deaths a year from chickenpox. Also, everyone born in the mid-80s and earlier is prolly gonna get scabies, so, there’s that

Vaccinate your kids, guys!

Yep. I remember the week all 3 of us had chicken pox, and how freaked out my mom was bc we had just been to a bbq and I had held someone’s brand new baby.

Like I got home and found the first pox on my arms and side and my mom rightly freaked the whole hell out.

The baby was fine but our nerves were all on edge for a bit. I felt so guilty even though I had no way to know before I found the pox on my side.

And that’s the thing, the vaccine would have not just prevented me from suffering, but protected that baby who was too young. Couple kids in my class went to the hospital that summer, too.

Plus shingles are the worst, I’m told. Friends have had them. I want the shingles vaccine but i’m too young yet.

I still remember when my medical exam for immigration rolled round and they asked me why I hadn’t had the chicken pox vaccination on my form and I was like “a vaccination for what now?” Cause I had no idea there was one, and I had this genuine moment of happiness in thinking “that means less suffering for children. Amazing, what a time to be alive” and then they stuck me with the MMR booster shot because in order to legally enter the US you have to have all your vaccinations or you can’t come in.

Presumably to protect you from the locals at this point, cause there’s not just chicken pox outbreaks in my area atm, but measles and whooping cough too.

Whooping cough was another fun thing I got as a kid cause I couldn’t be vaccinated. And unfortunately I went to school with a lot of anti-vaxxer victims, who also got super sick and passed it on, meaning I spent a lot of time off school at the age of seven, coughing so hard I burst blood vessels in my eyeballs and feeling like every labored breath might be my last cause some ignorant fuck decided their personal purity and fake science was more important than protecting the life of their actual child and those around them.

Please vaccinate your children. And if you’re an adult, check and see you are up to date on your shots. Important ones like MMR need to be updated after a decade or so. It’s not just your life you’re saving.

I pre-date the chicken pox vaccine. I guess that should make me feel old.

There was a moment of silence. Two on one, she was outnumbered. “Okay…” She sighed. “If you say so.”

“I’m, uh… sorry for worrying you…” She added quietly.

With their rooms literally next to each other, it was no time at all before Dawn and Adana crept into Tempest’s quarters.

“Hey, you called, Tempest?” Dawn inquired with a slight grin. Beside her, Adana enjoyed herself with a cup of ice cream, eating a spoonful before smiling softly at her oldest sister.

“Saw Aegis leaving your room a while ago, sis. She’s a really nice person.”

“I thought we could hang out.” Tempest replied, looking up with a hint of a blush. Still not used to being called ‘sis’, but she definitely liked it.

“Can we… can we just chat for a bit?”

“Sure. What sort of stuff do you feel like chatting about?” Dawn said as she accessed the replicator to make a little box of candy.

Adana nodded and continued with her ice cream, simply letting her other sisters do most of the talking. She had a feeling Tempest wanted to talk about something important. What exactly, she didn’t know.

A few doors away, Aegis had inadvertently fallen asleep simply from how comfortable her bed was, the Titan still cuddling up to her bolster.

Tempest took a deep breath.

“I think… I think I like Aegis.” She confessed. “I mean, she’s so awesome, and she’s nice to me, and she’s pretty…”

Tempest quickly shut herself up.

“But like, I like what Hope and Lumi have and I thought that would be cool, but I didn’t expect to have two sisters and now Idon’tknowwhattodo.” She rushed her words, obviously eager to get it off her chest as quick as possible.

Dawn popped a piece of candy into her mouth as she listened along. “Heard from some others that’s not uncommon with how popular Aegis is. She’s not just pretty, she’s beautiful. I say that if you like her in that way, don’t hesitate to tell her.”

She chewed thoughtfully. “I’d even wager that you have a better shot than most, sis. Aegis seemed pretty comfortable being around you. Bet a gummy she finds you special. I know the three of us are really new to this ‘being human’ thing, but I have a feeling you and her will be great.”

Adana had cast her thoughts to other conversations upon Tempest mentioning the two cruiser sisters. “Hope and Lumi…those two cruisers who were beside each other all the time in that class earlier? One of the seniors told me there was a time they weren’t so close with each other. Then Lumi went somewhere, and when she came back, she and Hope made up. They’ve been inseparable ever since.”

The (technically) youngest of the three carriers smiled. “Dawn and I promised Aegis we’d look out for you, sis. We’re family. If you want to be close with us like Hope and Lumi are with each other, I’m fine with that.”
