“Well, many of my advisers say fatherhood suits me.” Wolf smiled, his voice quiet, “They’re not wrong.”

He looked at Zelda proudly.

“This one, however, will be my last.” He said, “I’ve fathered a lot of children in my time on this plane of existence, Red… I’ve had bastards running around for years. In the culture I was raised in, it’s not unusual to have a lot of children. Hell, you’re not considered a man until you’ve fathered a bastard. However… I’m happy now that I’ve had Zelda here… She will be my heir.”

He looked over at Red(F). He’d changed considerably since they last saw each other. Some of his scars had faded slightly, except the one close to his left eye. His eyes, which had once had some brightness to them, were dark, weary from years of war. His unruly hair, currently done up in a small ponytail, was now flecked with gray.

Closing his eyes, and sighing, he went and placed Zelda gently into a cot, kissing her forehead. Walking back to the seat, he sat back down.

“A lot has happened.” He said, “A lot of things I regret… a lot of things I don’t.”

Tears formed in his eyes. Carefully, he hugged her.

“I am so… so … sorry…” He said tearfully, his shame taking over, “For everything that I have caused you… for everything I caused the GDI… I am so… so… sorry…”

Red(F) returned the hug, her tone soft. “Don’t blame yourself too hard. Some of that was our fault too.”

The Admiral patted Wolf’s back. She too held some guilt over indirectly causing the rise of the Scorpion’s Hand.

“I’m sorry too.”

Pulling away after a moment, he regained his composure, sniffing a bit.

“Yuki’s been trying to console you… but out of everyone… I really missed you.” He said to her, pressing a kiss to her forehead, “I just… I kept messing shit up…”

“Oi, you two.” Yuki said, beginning to undo her clothes, grabbing the two of them, “Bed time.”

Red(F) gently eased Yuki’s hand away with her superior strength. “Sorry, Yuki dear, but I’ve got stuff that needs doing. I do wanna bed you again, but not right now, alright?”

She knew the succubus wanted her right then and now, she could practically feel Yuki’s burning lust, but even her own urges had to be put aside.

Red(F) turned to Wolf. “Just know that I’m not mad at you anymore, Wolfie. We’ve both got things to make up for.”

Yuki pouted at that.

“Okay…” She said sadly. Wolf looked to Red(F), and nodded. Going over, he pressed a gentle kiss to her lips.

“Don’t keep Yuki waiting too long.” He said when he pulled away.

Red(F) smiled and gave a nod as she left. There were a number of things she had to see to.

But she didn’t forget about Yuki’s needs. Her tasks would require fairly little time, so the earliest estimate was a few hours away.

Plenty of time to prepare, and make Yuki’s night a very fun and wonderful one.

Wolf, on the other hand, took Yuki into his arms. He wasn’t quite ready to pleasure his wife himself, but he was going to give her something he hadn’t been able to for some time: a cuddle.

“C’mere you.” Wolf said, picking Yuki up bridal fashion, and kissing her.

On her part, Red(F) had Blinked herself up to her male self’s office, proceeding to seat herself beside him as a remote-projection assembly of his Admiralty was underway.

Fleet Admiral Green was the first to speak up after her revelation of Yellow’s whereabouts, his tone grave and severe. “Terra Ancora? Are you sure?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

The leader of the now greatly reduced Second Fleet sighed. “So why aren’t we dispatching even a single ship to retrieve her? Lumeri is performing her duty excellently, but in this trying time, we need Yellow back with us more than ever.”

“There are still other parts to this matter,” Lumeri herself chimed in. “Yellow’s parting words to me seemed to convey her eventual return. I stand by my belief that a search and recovery effort will not be necessary. Moreover, she specifically conveyed through Miss Himekawa that she did not want us to go after her. If nothing else, we would do well to heed her request.”

Platinum sat forward, directing her words at Green. “So even now you still stand by duty before all else? We were spared destruction by Bellatrix for a reason, Green. And that is to learn from this and become better guardians. I’m starting to think you haven’t.”

Red(M) gestured for silence. “Let it not be forgotten that we rightly bear the blame for much that has happened. No amount of kind words and acts of charity can bring back the dead. Our only hope is that we will all indeed learn from this. If or when Yellow returns to us, do we proceed with the motion of handing over the role of Commanding Fleet Admiral to her?”

In the mindscape running parallel to this assembly, Red(M) put forth the vote. As was usual for this motion, his own position and Lumeri’s remained ‘abstain’.

Steadily, the other Fleet Admirals put in their votes. Unsurprisingly, most of them were ‘yes’, with only Fleet Admirals Silver and Pearl voting ‘no’.

The results were collated and displayed. Red(F) eyed the rest, Lumeri in particular. “Then all that’s left is to see if Yellow accepts the proposition. Got a feeling we’ll all be disappointed.”

“Interesting…” Halcyon continued noting to herself. “Seems that tech exchange paid off fairly well. Alright, Firelance, you’ll be experiencing zero-G for a bit. If you can, try to bring your rigging out.”

From the reports the corvette crew had made, it seemed like Firelance’s flight capabilities were a bit on the slow side. Then again, it would be hard to know exactly how she fast she could go for sure until she was either out in space or in a holodeck simulation.

“Zero-G in 3…2…1…mark.” With that, Halcyon tapped a control on one of the holoscreens, causing gravity to cut out within the diagnostic bay’s cylinder.

“Even more so if you factor in that it made the Void Phoenix possible,” Firelance comments. “Okay. I hope I can figure that out as I go—oh!”

Sure enough, Firelance had managed to bring her rigging out, and it looked just as modular and blocky as she did before her manifestation. As for the Zero G, she immediately stumbled once it was turned on, but managed to clumsily right herself afterwards. This clumsiness was no doubt a confounding variable in the prior scans.

Had she been able to read the results for herself, Firelance would have been reassured that her clumsiness hadn’t changed the scan data.

“Are you alright?” Halcyon inquired with a brief look at her. “Readings are stable. Seems your propulsion is working fine.”

Tapping the relevant control again, Halcyon gradually reactivated artificial gravity to let Firelance walk on her feet again.

“Alright, that’s it for the basic scan. Everything looks good for you, Firelance.” Halcyon remarked.

It would’ve been a much different story if Hana had been onboard at the time of her destruction, but Firelance couldn’t blame Teague and company for getting her out. Whatever spacecraft they ended up piloting next, she was confident Hana could pilot it effectively, which was a rare trait indeed when it came to pilots.

“I’m still not used to flying myself…” the Firelance admits, fortunately managing to gently touch down this time. She decides to put away her rigging for now, as she walks over to Halcyon. “I assume there’s other tests to be run now?” she asks.

“Only if they’re necessary. You don’t seem like a purpose-built military ship, from what the scans tell me, and with events the way they are now…” Halcyon trailed off.

A shake of the head. “Ah, never mind that. Just know that if you want to test out your armaments, you can try out our practice zone just outside the Starbase. Either that, or a holodeck sim.”

The repair ship-cum-Chief Engineer scratched her chin thoughtfully, calling up a holoscreen before her.

“In any case, we’ll have to contact your people, let them know you exist.”

It’s fucking prison camps holding 1,400 children. that’s fascism

So this is how the fall continues. History already tells us how this ends. Never thought I’d see another fascist coup in my lifetime, but here we are.

Normally, I’d say something here about taking action and not relenting to fascists, but I will leave action to those who can undertake it.

There was a moment of silence. Two on one, she was outnumbered. “Okay…” She sighed. “If you say so.”

“I’m, uh… sorry for worrying you…” She added quietly.

“It’s alright.” Aegis reassured her with a gentle pat on the shoulder.

“I guess I’ve grown to care for you all a lot.”

The Titan glanced around Tempest’s quarters, noting how bare and standard it looked. Not uncommon, some new arrivals took a bit of time to spruce up their quarters as well.

Though perhaps Tempest was more of a minimalist? Either way, it probably didn’t hurt to ask.

“Guess you don’t know what to put up here yet, huh? It’s fine, I was the same way too when I first came back.”

Yellow didn’t answer for a while, thinking deeply. If Bellatrix was here, maybe her journey could be shortened a little.

“I’d…like to meet her there, at the Temple. After we’re done with the mission.” She requested, a bit of her resolve returning once she looked at her party. ”They still need someone to be there for them, right?”

If nothing else, she could do some more good out there before she met with the deity. “One more thing…you all can still call me Amarillo if you want. It’s just my name in a different language anyway.”

“Well, good thing I happen to be attuned to the Larstern Warp Crystal,” Aelius mentioned.  “I’ll get us there in a flash once we’re done and collect our payment.”

Thrud nodded.  “For now, we focus on our quest,” she declared, picking the quest for them and uploading the data to whatever relevant datapads the team had.  “Now then, let’s be on our way and help these people.”

In Yellow’s case, she didn’t even need a datapad, the data being transferred directly into her neural interface.

The blonde nodded, following her team out and gathering some more looks from those who had gathered around them earlier. She ignored them, fixing her gaze on Vesperr’s back.

Once the skies were clear, Yellow activated the wings of her suit, a hum of antigrav-assisted propulsion being accompanied by their signature golden glow that resembled angel wings.

And so she hovered along, following her party until the civilians were found.

“Yeah.” Tempest smiled, creating a small stack of her own.

Whatever was on her mind, she was hiding it well. Or maybe there was nothing at all, she seemed happy.

“If it’s okay with all of you, I might stop by my quarters for a while.” She said. “But we can meet up again in say, an hour?”

Aegis nodded. “That’s fine by me.”

That reminded her; she had some updated details to give Tempest’s sisters.

“Right, Dawn and Adana, just need to inform you that thanks to our expansion of the station your quarters have been shifted to be beside Tempest’s.”

The two carriers had smiles on their faces as they processed the news. Adana in particular looked the happiest. “We live near each other. That’s great!”

That certainly put Tempest in a good mood. “That’s fantastic!” She agreed.

Nothing else could make her quite as elated at knowing she would be close to her new family.

“If you need time to yourself, I’ll certainly let you be.” Aegis said, folding her hands behind her back.

Dawn and Adana looked at their lead sister. “Just call if you need us for anything, sis.” Dawn said confidently.

It wasn’t hard to see the proud expression on the slightly younger carrier’s face. Adana remained more mellow, though. “We’re here for you now.”

“Um… I’m fine, but, thanks.” She smiled, looking confused. Wondering what would prompt the sudden supportive words.

“Well… you know where to find me.” She joked, rising to her feet. “See you in a bit, yeah?”

The Titan nodded, giving her a small wave. “Mm. See you later.”

Watching Tempest leave for elsewhere, Aegis turned to see Dawn and Adana talking with each other, discussing the possibility of having some ice cream for dessert.

A moment passed without much fanfare as her thoughts returned to Tempest. The carrier hadn’t eaten much, surely something was bugging her.

But going up to her right now would only annoy her, undoubtedly. A part of her sensed that Tempest needed some alone time.

Such might not be the case. Anyone who happened to follow her movements, or possessed an AI that could do so, might notice she’d left her door unlocked. It would appear she was welcoming to any unexpected visitors, while she was doing whatever it was she was doing.

Following some deep discussions with Serina, Aegis had ended up before Tempest’s door. She tapped the intercom’s holoscreen, hearing the gentle beep that meant the carrier would hear her.

“Tempest? It’s me, Aegis. May…I come in?”

A feeling of worry began pooling in the Titan’s chest. Was Tempest feeling sad again? It wasn’t hard to speculate why if she was.

“Um… J-Just a minute!” Came a panicked response. Surprised to be getting a visitor so soon, it certainly wasn’t expected.

A few moments later, the door smoothly slid open. And inside…

The room was as barren and bare as when Tempest had first moved in, with no traces whatsoever of any non-default furnishings. The lights were lowered to a muted dimness, only turning brighter for the benefit of the guest.

Tempest was in front of her (closed) bedroom door, like a child trying too hard to hide an embarrassing secret.

“I know I said you could come by any time, but… what are you doing here?”

It was clear as day to the Titan that Tempest was trying to hide something in her bedroom, but frankly she didn’t want to intrude too much into that.

Even she had her private things. It was best to respect Tempest’s need for such as well. Aegis decided to just be as straightforward as possible with the reason she’d come here.

“Back when we were having our meals at the Atrium…I noticed you didn’t eat much. Has something been bothering you?”

A silent mental notification by Akemi told Aegis that Dawn and Adana had returned to their quarters as well. She put that aside, focusing on Tempest before her. “It’s alright. You can tell me.”

“Bothering me?”

At that moment, the carrier seemed genuinely confused.

“I mean, apart from everything that’s happened, I think I’m doing okay for now.” She said.

“As for before, I just… I remembered something I was told when I first appeared here. About how much energy is used just to feed us. Before all of this, you know, my real form, I had my own reactor to take care of all my needs. But it’s different now.”

“No offence, but… seeing how many plates you had… I thought maybe by rationing, I’d help just a little. That’s all.”

“Well, I mean, technically…we still do have our reactors.” Aegis explained. “No need to worry on that part.”

True, the mystery of how what felt like a heart still provided as much power as her full-sized drive core remained unsolved. But in any case, it meant energy wasn’t really as much of a concern as Tempest believed it was.

“You don’t have to force yourself to eat less, Tempest. If nothing else, trust me on this. Even with all the energy spent on feeding us, there’s so much more to spare that I can’t wrap my head around it.”

Serina chose that moment to let her own thoughts be known. “She’s right. Though current and projected energy consumption for SME forces will be significant, future energy production is estimated to be orders of magnitude higher. So much so that even this amount spent on food will be relatively trivial.”

“Or, put simply, you can indulge in as much food as you desire without worry.”

Aegis simply nodded in agreement.
