Fred Rogers ladies and gentleman!

Here are some interesting facts about him:

  • He basically saved public television. In 1969 the government wanted to cut public television funds. Mister Rogers then went to Washington where he gave an amazing merely six minute speech. By the end of the speech not only did he charm the hostile Senators, he got them to double the budget they would have initially cut down. The whole thing can be found on youtube, a video called “Mister Rogers defending PBS to the US Senate.”
  • “Certain fundamentalist preachers hated him because, apparently not getting the “kindest man who ever lived” memo, they would ask him to denounce homosexuals. Mr. Rogers’s response? He’d pat the target on the shoulder and say, “God loves you just as you are.” Rogers even belonged to a “More Light” congregation in Pittsburgh, a part of the Presbyterian Church dedicated to welcoming LGBT persons to full participation in the church.”
  • According to a TV Guide piece on him, Fred Rogers drove a plain old Impala for years. One day, however, the car was stolen from the street near the TV station. When Rogers filed a police report, the story was picked up by every newspaper, radio and media outlet around town. Amazingly, within 48 hours the car was left in the exact spot where it was taken from, with an apology on the dashboard. It read, “If we’d known it was yours, we never would have taken it.”
  • Once, on a fancy trip up to a PBS exec’s house, he heard the limo driver was going to wait outside for 2 hours, so he insisted the driver come in and join them (which flustered the host). On the way back, Rogers sat up front, and when he learned that they were passing the driver’s home on the way, he asked if they could stop in to meet his family. According to the driver, it was one of the best nights of his life—the house supposedly lit up when Rogers arrived, and he played jazz piano and bantered with them late into the night. Further, like with the reporters, Rogers sent him notes and kept in touch with the driver for the rest of his life.

Interesting. The Guardian’s weak point appeared to be the very focusing array that its high-energy laser fired from. Its ‘eye’, in other words.

Platinum accepted Link’s offer of loot with a smile. “Thank you.”

These Ancient Materials were very fascinating as well. Basic scans showed a composition similar to some industrial materials developed by the Federation during the mid-23rd century.

Though why were these materials used in such basic applications of engineering, Platinum wondered?

Sure, they were durable, but to make combat-capable automata out of just these advanced springs, gears and other basic components…it seemed a rather odd way of going about it.

Looking over the wreckage of the Guardian Stalker, Platinum scanned it briefly with her omni-tool. It was then that she took note of something within the wreckage, and thus used a brief kinesis field to grab ahold of it.

A core of sorts, it turned out. Useless as loot now, the thing was almost completely melted into crystalline goo.

Strange, though…the composition of it was somehow very familiar. Her AI spoke up mentally then, having studied it.

“My lady…that core’s composition shares some minor similarities with Protoss Khaydarin crystals. It is both a power source and computation substrate, though it appears to be non-psionic.”

Platinum agreed with Sebastian’s analysis. “It seems these ancient Hylians were more advanced than we realized.”

An Ancient Core? Thing was too damaged to be useful to Link, those things dropped very rarely.  “Intact Ancient Cores are rare finds,” Link mentioned.  “There’s also a bigger variant sometimes dropped by full-size Guardians like that one.  It’s pretty interesting stuff, even if I don’t fully understand how it works.”

Interesting was right. Normally creating a crystalline substrate like this was the domain of interstellar societies which had advanced their knowledge of both computer technology and multi-purpose power generation.

To see it being developed by a planet-bound, pre-spaceflight civilization was…highly unusual, to say the least.

Well, at least there were more opportunities to get intact samples. The Technology Council was going to have a field day with these discoveries.

Platinum dropped the melted remains of the ruined Ancient Core, turning to Link. “Surely there are more things we can find within this shrine. The message we deciphered mentioned knowledge. Perhaps there’s a library somewhere deeper?”

“Okay.” Platinum agreed, staying in cover while she readied the emergency cloaking function on her omni-tool.

It wasn’t as long-lasting as a true military-grade cloak, but it was at least almost as effective.

Safely concealed, she watched Link prepare to deal with this Guardian. If nothing else, she could observe the thing’s movements and know how to take down others in future, if there were more.

Link stepped out into the open as the Guardian noticed him.  It started painting a targeting laser on Link as he raised his shield, with a distinctive and audible beeping noise as it did so.  Then, the very moment it fired, Link parried the laser with his shield, the blast going right back into the Guardian’s face and stunning it, clearly doing heavy damage to the thing.

Then, Link took advantage of this moment and charged the legs with the Master Sword, hacking at them and quickly severing them one after another, each leg severed stunning the Guardian again for a period of time.  However, Link was moving fast, he clearly didn’t want the Guardian to get a shot off at all.

After enough blows and severed legs, the Guardian detonated, having done surprisingly little against Link.  Scooping up the various Ancient Materials left behind, Link decided to hand a couple over to Platinum.  “Here, you can study these if you want to,” he mentioned.

It was mostly screws and springs with a gear as well.  The springs never lost their tension no matter how many times they were compressed, and no matter how many times the screws were turned, they never showed any signs of wear on the threads.  As for the gear, despite the age of the component, it was clearly leaps and bounds above most other gears developed, even from societies that are considerably more advanced than Hyrule.

Interesting. The Guardian’s weak point appeared to be the very focusing array that its high-energy laser fired from. Its ‘eye’, in other words.

Platinum nodded quickly, noting Link’s tone.

Good thing she’d had Quentin stay behind. This guardian sounded like something no person without military-grade augmentations could handle.

At least she’d packed a basic particle pistol, the weapon in question being collapsed in a storage form within a quick-access holster at her hip. If nothing else, it was reliable and efficient for defending herself.

“Ready on your word, sir.”

Link nodded, continuing onwards.  He had the ability to efficiently deal with Guardians, though he wasn’t too sure about Platinum.  A direct hit from a Guardian Laser is fatal to most people, and even Link takes a lot of damage from one of these things.

As they continued into the shrine, Link kept holding his Hylian Shield up, in case he heard the distinctive beeping of a Guardian Targeting Laser.  As they continued forward, Link spotted the target.  A full-scale Guardian Stalker.  It hadn’t noticed them just yet.  Link quickly yanked Platinum behind some cover.

“Leave this thing to me,” Link said.  “I can deal with this thing pretty easily.  Just follow my lead, alright?”

“Okay.” Platinum agreed, staying in cover while she readied the emergency cloaking function on her omni-tool.

This blog did not and will not send requests for bitcoin donations.

There seems to be a virus or some sort of malware going around causing blogs to “send out” chat messages to blogs that they follow asking for help with the purchase of certain items through donations of seemingly small amounts using bitcoin and adds a link to the message.

The message goes as following (at least the first message I got went like this): “Hi there buddy. I need help, I’m trying to buy a laptop and I can’t afford it. I’m about 0.36$ short, and I’d really appreciate if you could help me and transfer some money to me via bitcoin using this *link*.”

The small details in the message seems to have a few variations with the greeting, amount and purchased item showing up in different variations from formal to friendly, from 0.016 to 2$ and from a phone case to a laptop among others.

The blogs that are affected send out the messages to blogs that they follow for a long time mostly, so you are most likely to receive the message from a long time, active follower whose name you might recognize or a mutual etc. The blogs that are affected are not spam bots but actual active followers who follow the recipient for months or years and most likely the blogger who “sent” the message is unaware of the message being sent.

DO NOT OPEN THE LINK.

Opening up the link will cause the virus to spread even more and infect your computer/mobile with any sort of malware.

If you have received a message of that sort from this blog please know that it was not sent by me or within my control and ignore/delete the message without clicking the link.

Edit:

To those worried because they received a message with a wallet code instead of a l8nk, there’s nothing to worry about. Tge wallet code is essentially tge equivalent of a bank account number. So unless you actually go and actively transfer from your wallet to theurs you’re safe. Opening the messages themselves is harmless.

The best way to know if you were affected is to simply go into messages and see if you sent a message like that to anyone, it will appear in the chat.

I personally recommend changing passwords just in case, even if you weren’t hit with the virus.

Some moments passed while Platinum continued to piece together the logic puzzle.

Sebastian helped her out as well, her AI guessing a few phrases from the growing pool of words that Link added to with each panel movement.

Finally, as Link revealed another panel with an ancient Hylian character, it clicked for Platinum. She read the completed phrases aloud as she read it through.

“Within this domain, a guardian slumbers. If knowledge is what you seek, remain and proceed. Trespassers beware its watchful light.”

A watchful light? Did this ‘guardian’ have some sort of sensor array? And the phrases mentioned knowledge as some form of reward.

This shrine was also a library or archive, then. Well, knowledge was certainly worth any trial they had to go through.

Though, if the guardian was somehow dangerous…

“Quentin, you might have to stay here while Link and I press on. If we find anything, I’ll let you and the rest know on comms.” Platinum said as she glanced to her fellow explorer. She had a faint feeling this guardian would be some trouble.

She turned to Link, idly tucking a stray lock of hair back. “Shall we proceed further in, sir?”

At the explanation of the phrase, that could only mean one thing to Link: There was a Guardian in here.  “Stay close to me,” he said, readying the Master Sword.  “If that’s what I think it is, don’t stray far from me if you want to live.”

Not often he had to deal with full-scale Guardians in these Shrines.  Usually it was just Guardian Scouts and some puzzles at the most.  Still, this wasn’t good if they had to deal with full-size Guardians in here…

Platinum nodded quickly, noting Link’s tone.

“A long-term study of children
raised by lesbians found that these children were less likely
to suffer from physical and sexual abuse than were their peers
who were raised by heterosexuals. This is thought to be due to
the absence of adult heterosexual men in the households (Gartrell,
Bos, & Goldberg, 2010). Girls raised by
lesbians tend to have higher self-esteem, show more maturity
and tolerance than their peers, and are older when they have
their first heterosexual contact (Gartrell et al., 2005, 2010). Children
raised by same-sex parents seem to be less constrained by
traditional gender roles; boys are less aggressive, and girls are
more inclined to consider nontraditional careers, such as doctor,
lawyer, or engineer (Gartrell et al., 2005; Stacey & Biblarz,
2001). Over the course of more than 20 years, scientists studied
the psychological adjustment of 78 teenagers who were raised by lesbian mothers. Compared to age-matched counterparts raised
by heterosexual parents, these adolescents were rated higher
in social, academic, and total competence, and lower in social
problems, rule-breaking, aggression, and externalizing problem
behavior (Gartrell & Bos, 2010).
There are fewer studies of children raised by two men, but gay
fathers are more likely than straight fathers to put their children
before their career, to make big changes in their lives to accommodate
a child, and to strengthen bonds with their extended families
after becoming fathers (Bergman, Rubio, Green, & Padrone,
2010).”

“having gay parents will harm children”

I love that this is cited and sourced ahhhh. Actual researched support! So good.

“One moment…” Platinum said as she moved to have a closer look at the inscribed panels.

“Sebastian, pull up Initiative records of ancient Hylian script. Is our translation base updated?”

Her AI took a moment to scan what she was seeing, and less than that to make a translation as best he could.

“Translation done, Admiral.”

Platinum hummed as she looked at the panels again, now seeing their translated words. A few idle taps of her omni-tool synced the data to Link’s slate.

While Link pored over the translations, the Fleet Admiral pondered the context behind the disjointed words she was seeing.

“Slumber…guardian…domain…remain. Interesting…” Platinum murmured.

Link continued to move the panels around to reveal new words to Admiral Platinum for her to translate, hoping that they’d be able to reveal the whole thing this way and get the answer they were looking for.
